The Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE – Advanced), formerly Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) is an annual engineering college entrance examination in India. It is used as the sole admission test by the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The examination is organized each year by one of the various IITs, on a round robin rotation pattern. It has a very low admission rate (about 10,000 in 660,000 in 2012), and was thus recognized as one of the toughest examinations in the world.
Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st October, 1992 (for general and OBC candidate) are eligible to apply. If candidates belong to reserved category like SC, ST and PwD category, then the date of birth falls on or after 1st October, 1987 are eligible for JEE main application. Candidates note down that date of birth mentioned in the Secondary Education Board/University will be considered only for appearing in the exam.
QUALIFICATION REQUIRED :
Candidates appearing for JEE Main 2017 must has passed class 12th with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics in order to apply. However For admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs & CFTIs candidates must have secured at least 75% in their class 12th board exams (65% for SC/ST students ).
No board marks will be taken into account for calculating JEE Main score from the year 2017 onwards.
Candidates who have passed 12th class or equivalent exam in 2015 or 2016 (not before 2015) are eligible to apply for this exam. If a candidate appears in 12th or equivalent class in 2017 are also eligible for JEE Main 2017. If candidates has appeared in 12th or equivalent exam in 2014 but did not cleared in 2014, but passed in 2015 are not eligible to apply.
If a candidates qualify 12th exam in 2016 & appear for improvement in 2017 for one or few subjects, then top 20 percentile cut-off for 2016 will be considered. However, if a candidate writes all the subjects in 2017, then the best of the two performances will be considered. Candidates also note down that for the percentile system, total marks obtained in all the five subjects of marksheet are required for JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
